ASSISTANT PROFESSOR

Job Description: The School of Communication at East Carolina University invites applications for one tenure-track assistant professor position in journalism, starting in August 2010. Successful candidates will primarily teach skills courses in broadcast journalism, media writing and basic reporting. We are particularly interested in applicants capable of teaching an ENG course, and advanced-reporting and news-producer courses that work together on locally aired student newscasts and a future Web product. Tenure-track faculty members are expected to engage in scholarly research or appropriate creative work, and in service to the academy and profession.

ECU is a diverse and dynamic state-system university of nearly 28,000 undergraduate, graduate and medical students. Greenville is a growing metro area of aproximately
156,000 that is within a two-hour drive of Atlantic Ocean beaches and metro Raleigh. The School of Communication serves more than 1,000 undergraduate and health-communication master's students. Journalism is the school's second largest concentration and recently implemented a convergence-journalism curriculum. Applicants are invited to visit the school's Web site at www.ecu.edu/comm/.


Minimum Qualifications: Professional experience as a broadcast journalist and competency in Final Cut Pro or AVID are preferred. A terminal degree from an appropriately accredited institution is required for tenure-track appointment. ABD will be considered for appointment at the rank of instructor.
